How to deal with losing friends on your journey to success

BY Erna Basson

Like the saying goes, it is very crowded at the bottom, but very lonely at the top. As you embrace on your journey to success you would find that the people you thought is supporting you is no longer supporting you and I write this from personal experience. The friends you had when you started out in your journey, will not be the friends you have when you reach the top. People that is less successful than you just don’t want to see you succeed, its human nature.

Let me tell you something today, you are going to lose friends as your progress on your journey and that is ok. You are going to meet new like minded friends that is on the same mission as you, that also want to be successful and those are the real friends that you want. Friends that supports you, friends that is actually happy for you when you achieve your goals.

Here are 5 tips on how you can deal with losing friends:

  1. Get at peace with the fact that you are going to lose friends, as you grow into a stronger person, you outgrow your friends too.
  2. Join a networking club - This is the perfect place where you can meet new people that is like minded and on the same mission as you.
  3. Hang out with people more successful than you - this will keep the growth momentum and keep you out of your comfort zone.
  4. Follow an influencer on social media - The best way to stay motivated is to listen and learn from the world's best.  Some of my favorites to follow is:  Eric Thomas, Gary V, Les Brown.
  5. Don't take it personal.
